Porthtowan is only one mile away. A good surfing beach and holding the accredited blue flag it is a favourite with all ages.
If golf is your pleasure there is Truro Golf Club – 7 miles, Killiow Golf Club – 9 miles, Perranporth Golf Club – 6 miles, and Tehidy Golf Club – 5 miles. All are of very good standard and welcoming to visiting players.
For gardens and country houses there are many National Trust Gardens, Trebah, Trelissick, Trerice, Glendurgan, St Michaels Mount and Trengwainton to name just a few, as well as Trevarno, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
Falmouth is able to offer the Henry VIII Pendennis Castle, the Maritime Museum, a wonderful walk around the Castle Drive which overlooks the docks and the harbour which is reputed to be the third largest natural harbour in the world. There are also many boat trips on offer in the area.
Children love the many attractions and theme parks. DairyLand Farm World is a favourite with animal lovers. Holywell Bay Fun Park and Flambards are popular too.
There are a selection of cycle trails in Cornwall, one of which is only 3 miles away. This is the Coast to Coast trail which travels from Portreath on the north coast to Devoran on the south coast. Another popular one is the Camel trail. This follows the waterway from Padstow to Wadebridge and on through the countryside to Bodmin, passing the well known acclaimed Camel vineyard. Many places have cycles for all ages to hire.
